Audio Dancing is a series of audio scores composed by dance artist Gaby Agis and recorded in green spaces in London.
Lillington Gardens Estate (30mins)
Westminster, 27 June 2022
Accompanied by Mary Prestige, a Liverpool-based dance artist whose work with different communities spans several decades.
This audio score was recorded in Lillington Gardens Estate on a small hill within a wild garden in the centre of the estate. The session begins with a duet between the hands and the skull, with an invitation to expand into space. This is followed by a rippling and pulsing dance that leads into full dancing, transitioning into a quiet time on the ground connecting with the breath. A rolling, falling dance on the springy grass surface gives rise to tumbling through space. The score concludes with a quiet internal dance while taking in the environment.
Participants are then invited to continue moving, writing, drawing and exploring their creative practice.
Interview between Gaby Agis and Mary Prestige (26mins)
Mary reflects on her experience with the score and remarks on the absence of touch throughout the pandemic years. Mary touches on several areas of her long history in dance—gymnastics, X6 and New Dance magazine—and, more recently, her activities with dance colleagues in Liverpool.
Audio Dancing is an Independent Dance commission produced by Gaby Agis in partnership with Independent Dance and supported through public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
