Emma Lewis-Jones (LJ) is a dance dramaturge concerned with strategies of critique as care. This workshop will focus on the ways in which we can read performance together. It’ll feel like an expansive reading group with some gentle movement tasks thrown in. There shall be some materials and provocations through which to trace the ways forming allyship to ideas can accelerate collaborative dynamics; using discussion, interrogation and embodied reading.
Emma Lewis-Jones (LJ) (she/her) works across performance in various capacities; choreographer, dance dramaturge, facilitator, performer. Her creative work is informed by fifteen years of somatic embodiment research, folk, social and contemporary dance styles. Her training in Choreography (BA Falmouth) and in Fine Art: Performance (MA, GSA) underpin her practice today, which is concerned with notions of intervention.
Her current choreographic research regards the limitations and failures of unison as a foundational dance modality. As a facilitator Emma nurtures a person-centred ethos and is dedicated to supporting people to realise their own choreographic potential. And as a dramaturge she believes passionately that critique can be a form of care and fosters a rigorous generative process; utilising her dramaturgical tools during devising stages. Most recently LJ has delivered dance dramaturgy for Tough Boys, Aniela Piasecka, Jo Hauge, Nemo Flouret, Hamshya Rajkumar and Kirstin Halliday.
