Katye curates classes and workshops to include solo study, partner work and group activities. The invitations are intended to encourage all those in the room, dancing professionals and keen movers alike. Come ready for discovery and joyful big dancing. Katye sometimes works work with touch/contact and will offer alternative practice if that is not on your dancing menu. Her work is influenced by many of her teachers, techniques, choreographer collaborators, writers and by working with and in nature. Katye attempts to name those influences in the act of teaching.
‘I understand that the way I guide in the room can often feel a little like DJ’ing … through listening and responding to the dancing that is happening and the curiosities that I sense in front of me … good DJ’s are channels for the collective. I’m not sure I’m that (yet!) but I know that I’m attempting to follow and infuse and surprise and augment through invites and questions and technical dancing questions.’
Katye Coe (she/they) is a dance worker who performs, facilitates, and teaches across professional, training and community settings. I’ve been doing this work for 30 years in the UK and internationally. She also works as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (Peter Levine’s trauma resolution therapeutic approach).
‘My approach to teaching is deeply informed by my dancing practice and my understanding of how attending to physiological, philosophical and relational invitations can tune the body toward full and sustainable dancing.’
