Drawing from her experience of improvised performance and improvisation practices including Passing Through and Action Theatre, Bethany’s class aims to centre the unique joy that moving with others can bring.
Through simple, practical, physical provocations, for example dancing with your feet/base fixed in place, or directional slow motion, we start with personal movement investigation. These tasks then come into relation with others as we start to play with pathways through space and time.
From the outset of the session, we will gently open our awareness into performance, practising observing and being observed. Starting by working in pairs and increasing the group sizes until we are all composing together through simultaneously acting as performers and audience.
Bethany will bring an eclectic playlist. The music is there to be danced with, danced over, and danced through. We may play with automatic and improvised writing as a means of understanding the relationship between spontaneous dancing and instant composition.
Cancellations and refunds
Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidised by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable. If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
