In this class participants will engage with the teaching method Root-Meter. We will use an improvisational approach with elements of somatics to guide us through the engagement process of this West African/Cuban movement form. Focusing on the pelvis and spine to explore meters, using breath to flow, and exploring qualities of vibration and undulation through space to stimulate polyrhythms. We will also explore movement from Yoruba and Dahomean, using afro house music. All are welcome.
In the practice of Root-Meter, we tap into the spine region which modes and correspond to the directives of the Orisha; to assist with connection of mind and body to develop the movement language from West Africa/Cuba.
