This class is for anyone who would like to explore the creative potential of their body and voice and access their innate spontaneity. You will be invited to connect inwards to sensations, breath, feelings and imagination and outwards to others through movement, vocal work and dynamic play. Kate’s teaching style is gentle and supportive and this class is open to all; no previous movement or vocal experience is necessary.
Through practicing simple improvisational exercises, working solo, with a partner and in groups, you will experience different ways to integrate voice and movement and develop your listening and collaborative skills. There will be opportunities to watch each as you improvise. Kate’s classes are influenced by her movement-based theatre practice, including Action Theater™. Action Theater is an improvisational physical theatre training and performance method created by Ruth Zaporah. The practice of Action Theater incorporates the disciplined exploration of embodied exercises that lead to increased skills of strong, clear, spontaneous, and artful communication.
Because there are often last minute changes, we find it better to not a run a waiting list for Monday Night Improvisation. If you would like to come on the night, there are often a couple of places available on the door.
Cancellations & refunds
Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidized by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable. If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
