Led by Simonetta Alessandri, this class will be specifically focused on exploring connections between hand and feet. With the Feldenkrais Method directing our attention to internal sensations, without judgement, we observe how we move. Opened to potentiality, curious about new possibilities, we identify habits and clarify choices to promote efficiency, freedom and a sense of ease that involve our whole self. Awareness of the roots of a movement and the emergence of new possibilities gives us a reinvigorating sense of ownership and pleasure in our dancing. Through improvisational strategies we will access a more energetic physicality and a broader awareness of sharing space and time with others.
Alessandri, an Italian dance artist and somatic educator based in London, applies the Feldenkrais Method in dance and movement training and in performance making. She teaches at Trinity Laban, Goldsmiths University and London Contemporary Dance School. Her work is informed by more than 30 years of dancing, teaching and choreographing. Her choreography has been for dance companies, student pieces, large scale opera, improvised performance, site specific and movement direction for theatre. She has been a guest teacher in more than ten countries. She obtained the Post Graduated Diploma in Choreography at London Contemporary Dance School. She is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy.
