In this class, participants will experience the Root-Meter Method, an improvisation-based movement practice inspired by West African, Afro-Cuban, and Brazilian dance traditions.
This session focuses on the relationship between the spine and pelvis, using guided improvisation to explore the movement qualities of undulation and vibration. Through rhythm, breath, and repetition, participants will discover how these qualities generate fluidity, connection and expressive movement, while developing a deeper awareness of the body’s natural rhythmic intelligence.
Drawing inspiration from Yoruba and Congo movement traditions, the class is accompanied by Afro-house music, providing a rhythmic foundation for participants to explore polyrhythmic movement through improvisation. Together, we will move with curiosity, freedom and joy.

Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidised by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable.
If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
