Jay is interested in blending elements of clowning with dance. In doing so you can expect to be exploring the voice, playing games and creating stories together, hoping to bring a sense of fun and silliness to the space. Jay’s work with esteemed clowns Paulina Lenoir and Lucy Hopkins has informed these elements. The suggestion is to please leave your inhibitions at the door.
Jay will touch on improvisation practices inspired by the work of Jo Fong in How Shall We Begin Again? Together participants will discover something between ‘portraiture, protest and something like a prayer’. These exercise focus on being present, excavating what is really important to us and what moves us? Aiming to find a sense of collectivity and togetherness.
Jay Yule works as a dance performer, clown and maker. They work regularly with artists Jo Fong, Marisa Carnesky, J Neve Harrington, Sarah Blanc and Eli Lewis as well as Theo Clinkard, Heidi Rustgaard and Luca Silvestrini in a variety of venues from the Royal Opera House mainstage to the sticky floors of the Dalston queer club circuit. They have performed throughout the UK, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands and in disciplines across clowning, puppetry, drag and immersive theatre. Their practice is existential in nature and draws from the experience of being queer and non-binary. Jay tries to foster an inclusivity into the way they create, making art which can be viewed by anyone with the hope of imparting a sense of activism from watching.

Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidised by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable. If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
