This improvisation class explores movement through guided scores, sensory awareness, and group improvisation. The session will move between individual exploration, partner work, and collective structures that support participants in developing attention, listening, and responsiveness while moving.
Pepa will share several improvisation scores developed through her project The Machine of Horizontal Dreams. These include practices such as moving with the eyes closed, moving with the organs, and exploring ideas of crescendo in both individual and collective ways. Through these scores, you will experiment with different dynamics of attention, rhythm, and spatial awareness.
The class also invites participants to play with shared ownership in the dance—embodying leading, following, and letting go. Curiosity, experimentation, and pleasure are central to the session, allowing improvisation to emerge as a collective and exploratory practice.
Pepa Ubera (she/her) is a London-based choreographer, facilitator, and interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersections of embodiment, technology, and speculative imagination. Her practice draws from feminist posthumanism, pleasure activism, and science fiction to create immersive performance installations that challenge linear narratives of progress and success. She is interested in collective dreaming, stillness, and relational forms of knowledge, inviting audiences into shared spaces where choreography unfolds through dialogue between bodies, environments, and digital media.
Originally from Madrid, Pepa has over twenty years of experience across dance, performance, and installation, presenting work in the UK, Europe, Australia, and Chile. Alongside her artistic practice, she facilitates spaces for collective exploration through improvisation, conversation, and embodied research. Her latest project, The Machine of Horizontal Dreams, premiered at Sadler’s Wells East in Autumn 2026. Pepa teaches weekly improvisation classes at The Place and leads workshops exploring improvisation and composition as emergent, relational practices.

Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidised by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable.
If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
