Sasha’s class consists of exploring playful tools, methods and ideas that help us come back to our essence. The classes will use freestyle and groove to explore what can be organic as we discover our innate movement and voice in this moment. Through cultural relationships and deep fun, we can find new places and spaces within.
In Street dance culture and throughout history the Cypher has been a fundamental ritual for community and exchange. To be witnessed and to be held by a tribe is an act of freedom, bravery and trust. Cypher is also a process and power from within, the origin of the word Cypher comes from the Arabic word Sifr, meaning Zero. This cyclical nature is our focus in my practice, the inner Sifr.
What do we discover about ourselves and those around us within the Cypher? What do we discover about ourselves and our experience when dancing comes from the cypher within the body, mind, soul. Sasha welcomes all styles and energies.
Cancellations and refunds
Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidised by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable. If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
My name is Sasha Mahfouz Shadid. I am a British/Palestinian, born in Portsmouth, Southsea. I am an experienced Movement artist, painter and culture worker. My greatest passions are Street-dance with a focus on Hip Hop, Krump, House Dance and traditional Palestinian dance; dance forms that I have learnt from artists and renowned dancers from around the world.
In my career I have worked locally and internationally. I have toured with Hip Hop theatre shows and have also performed in venues including The O2 Arena, Wembley Stadium, The Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Opera House, Sadler’s Wells Theatre and The National Theatre on the Olivier stage. I have also been Assistant Director for theatre work.
Aside from theatre, my work commercially is also ongoing having danced for pop and indie artists from GreenTeaPeng, Clean Bandit, Ellie Goulding and many more. I have been on a journey of discovery, gaining experiences that contribute to my creative path allowing me to create theatre, film and perform relentlessly.
