Through rhythmic patterns, footwork and sound-making, participants will delve into the experience of moving collectively and the relational states that arise between us as a result. The class will facilitate a close attention to the experience of moving together as a group, inspired by the spatial patterns that constitute different folk dances. Frameworks that begin in collective patterns will gradually unravel, allowing you to orient towards autonomy, personal curiosity and freedom. In this permissive space, expect lots of sound, music and noise.

During class, all participants are welcome to take breaks, observe, exit and enter the space as they wish. Lounge areas are available on the first and ground floors of the building. Yoga mats, blocks, cushions and ear defenders are available for use. We also welcome you being in contact if you would like to discuss the option of bringing your access support worker. Please speak to a member of the ID team if you require any assistance.
Cancellations and refunds
Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidised by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable. If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
Shivaangee (they/she)
Pronounced shiv-ahn-ghee
Shivaangee is a choreographer, and her practice draws upon her long-standing training in Bharatanatyam, and more experimental practices of movement + performance. Her method is multi-stranded; she works across dance, facilitation and research contexts. Her choreographic approach foregrounds folk dance influences, as she is interested in finding aspects of virtuosity in the relational and social dynamics created by dance rather than more conventional forms of virtuosity or spectacle. She regularly uses soundmaking, film, projection and collective composition in her work. Shivangee’s practice asks you to stay with your multiplicities (physically, socially, relationally, autobiographically, systemically) and unsettles preconceived notions and assumptions about what is a recognisably ‘Indian’ aesthetic.
