Amy Bell’s morning classes will focus on movement skills and somatic based practice. Starting with the breath, the core and opening the senses to find energetic connections through the body, the evolution of the class echoes co-ordination patterning as we grow from the horizontal to the vertical.
Time is given to listening and allowing sound into the body, to the repetition of functional and fluid floorwork units, to improvised moments and to expansive travelling sequences which build in imaginative complexity. Attention is given to momentum, awareness and individual investigation within the shared practice framework.
Amy Bell is teaching with ID for the first time through an invitation by Claudia Tonietto, our former Programme Coordinator.
Note from ID : In the interests of safety, we are encouraging everyone to take a Covid-19 lateral flow test before coming to the building to attend class.
Amy Bell is a dance artist who unwraps conversations around queerness, language and movement. They are a choreographer, producer, curator and facilitator whose practices are borne of a binary-busting fervour. They aim to explode them-and-us thinking around embodiment, marginalised experience and between audiences, artists and institutions.
Alongside their award winning solo, The Forecast, sibling piece TOMBO(Y)LAis an installation of conversation and dancing which occupies gallery spaces. Politically rigorous whilst uniquely approachable, their work creates connection whilst celebrating particularity. As an acclaimed performer, Amy has collaborated on a range of site-responsive, theatrical and installation work with artists including Lea Anderson, Hussein Chalayan & Damien Jalet, Tino Sehgal, Alessandro Sciarroni, Chiara Frigo, Maresa von Stockert’s Tilted Productions and Charlotte Spencer Projects. Amy was a Work Place Associate Artist and is currently Artist Development Producer at The Place in London.
