During the week, Eve will be researching how atmospheres of suspense can be choreographed between people, and how suspense can be worked with as a physical state in the body. Through guided movement practices, participants will cultivate heightened bodily perception, working with time-based approaches such as hyper–slow motion and the deliberate stretching or “eeking out” of actions. Some of the class material will draw on Eve’s current performance project, ‘The Joystick and The Reins’, and previous project, ‘Impact Driver’.
Movement work will be introduced like practical tasks. Participants will work individually, in pairs and in small groups; some tasks will involve touch, with all material adaptable to individual needs and boundaries.
This week of morning class forms part of the MA/MFA Creative Practice: Dance Professional programme, meaning that there are a reduced number of public places available. If this class is sold out, please join the waiting list to be notified if a place becomes available.
Eve Stainton (they/them) is an artist and choreographer born in Manchester and living in London, UK. They create multi-disciplinary performances that involve movement practices, live manual labour, live sound, and other invisible forces like drama and suspense. Their research is rooted in community, interested in how differently marginalised people experience and come into relationship with power structures and societal conventions. Often working with codes or tropes of gender, class and threat, their work stages clunky physical negotiations and reveals ‘behind the scenes’ mechanisms of working together to show a kind of reality that isn’t seamless.

Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidised by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable. If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
