Morning Class: Katye Coe

Set in the Siobhan Davies Dance roof studio we find Katye and Temitope dancing, full of energy and dynamism. Temitope is to the left of Katye wearing a light blue short sleeved shirt and brown trouser. Her arms are outstretched and her focus is past the camera, off to the left. Kayte is wearing a deep yellow sleeveless top and khaki trouser. Their arms bent above their head, mid balance on their left leg. The lighting is cool toned and bright.

Katye facilitates through a series of embodied physical and philosophical invitations that encourage curiosity and full dancing. Her class is oriented through her experiences as a dancer performer and informed by many.  Important influences for these classes will include Skinner Releasing Technique, weight sharing and good quality touch, nervous system regulation and harnessing support gravity and breath.

There will be solo dancing and dancing with others. There will be fast and slow times. There will be music sometimes and sometimes just the sounds in the room. Katye’s teaching ethos is that all experienced movers are welcome, and that what she offers will be open enough that those in the room can work toward the level of challenge and skill that suits their requirements on any given day and with the forms or styles of movement that they prefer.

This week of morning class forms part of the MA/MFA Creative Practice: Dance Professional Investigative Practice module, this year curated by Seke Chimutengwende. This means that there are a reduced number of public places available. If this class is sold out, please join the waiting list to be notified if a place becomes available.

Cancellations and refunds
Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidised by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable. If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
