In the role of facilitator, SERAFINE1369 is concerned with opening up embodied channels of connection and flow. In the sessions, they will share practices to support accessing and utilising body/sensing/emotion as oracular resource.
Classes will involve working with movement and dance as tools for listening to and witnessing without judgement, feeling towards and unsettling edges through tuning into the detail and murmurings of the sensing capacities of bodies.
All sessions are tuned to meet the feeling(s) in the room each day. The work is centred around individual practice, improvised movement, cultivating and refining awareness of the ways that we are entangled and always in relation, so that we stay open to influence and also move with agency. Sessions may involve speaking, physical contact with others and writing.
Florence Peake will lead Friday’s class. Drawing on somatic dance practices including Skinner Releasing Technique, touch based movement explorations and Florence Peake’s visual art background, these classes guide participants through perceptions of the body. They encourage working with the imagination as a powerful resource for multiple realties/physicalities existing at once between flesh, between states, between species. These classes incorporate writing, drawing, voice, and movement.
Cancellations and refunds
Prices for classes are kept very low and are subsidised by ID in order to support artists to attend. To keep admin manageable for our small team, we don’t offer refunds if you cancel or can’t attend a class, and we can’t transfer your booking to a different class/event. We hope this is understandable. If a class is cancelled or changed by ID however, we do offer refunds/transfers to everyone who has booked.
SERAFINE1369 is an artist, dancer and body-focused researcher working with dancing as a philosophical undertaking, a political project with ethical psycho-spiritual ramifications for being-in-the-world; dancing as intimate technology. They work with/in the context of the hostile architectures of the metropolis towards moments and states of transcendence.
Their practice is relational, cumulative and often collaborative and they work in various constellations, at different scales and in different roles to build spaces for communing/attuning/communicating. Spaces that might hold the complex, multiple and contradictory; spaces that consider movement and transformation as inevitable. Their work prioritises listening and is responsive to the specificities of context, using movement as a tool for flattening hierarchies of perception between visible and invisible (felt/sensed/remembered) presences.
Florence Peake’s practice encompasses visual art, dance and performance. By encouraging chaotic relationships between the body and material, Peake creates radical and outlandish performances, which create temporary alliances and micro-communities within the audience.
Florence has taught extensively in choreography, improvisation, touch based movement work and somatic practices since 2001. She is a certified Skinner releasing teacher at both Introductory and Ongoing levels.
Florence Peake’s work is part of Hayward Galleries Touring BAS9 and has been shown nationally and internationally and; RITE: touring to Palais de Tokyo, De la Warr Pavilion and a solo exhibition at Studio Leigh. Solo performance piece Voicings has toured to Sara Zanin Gallery Rome, 2017 the Serpentine Gallery, Mysterical day 2016, Somerset House for Block Universe performance festival. The Keeners Solo show at SPACE 2015, Hall of the swell Gallery Lejeune 2015, The BALTIC, Newcastle ensemble piece MAKE; Hayward Gallery- a 3-month performance installation as part of the Mirrorcity show, National Portrait Gallery, performing group work Paper Portraits. Commissions from; Whitechapel Art Gallery, Yorkshire Sculpture Park; Modern Art Oxford; Chapter Arts, Cardiff, Harris Museum, Preston, David Roberts Art Foundation. Peake is the recipient of the Jerwood Choreographic Research project 2016.
