Tom Goodwin’s classes usually begin with a welcome circle followed by an exploration of a variety of current themes. These may include nature & animal references and deep time & early human imagining.
Practices for mobilisation, strength-building, locomoting through space, learning about togetherness and touch work are placed throughout the sessions to support those current themes. Time is given for reflection, talking and dancing as a way to process experiences.
Tom Goodwin trained in contemporary dance at Laban, London and continued training in improvisation and devising at the Centre Chorégraphique National in Montpellier, France. As a performer, he has worked with artists such as Rosemary Lee, Charlotte Spencer, Luca Silvestrini, Yuval Pick, Charlie Morrissey, Amy Voris and Meytal Blanaru.
Tom founded Kinship Workshop in 2017 after spending extended time in various animal sanctuaries, and through the desire to integrate the support of embodied practice with nature activism and engagement. He co-developed and now runs the programme with Katye Coe.
Tom has a continually evolving teaching practice influenced by Bartenieff Fundamentals, Body Weather, Tai Chi/ Qi Gong, and various philosophical and deep ecology practices.
