Open Space for Kat Hawkins

A still of Kat. They are outside, their hair blows in the wind. They are wearing a white vest. They're looking past the camera, into the distance.

Kat is wearing a dark coloured hoodie and cap seated in wheelchair. They are situated in a graffitied under pass with florescent lights along the tunnel.

Kat sits on the floor surrounded by darkness, legs wide open, wearing blue "stubbies" (carbon fibre prosthetics that end in a curved bottom above where the ankle joint would be) on both legs. Kat is a white human with a dark brown mullet. They have on a cream strapped top and a silver thick chain around their neck. They are holding a prosthetic leg in their hand and eating the end of the prosthetic foot.

Kat is in a grey brick dance studio, with a ballet barre running along the wall. Kat is a white human with a dark brown mullet. They are captured in a position of precarity and balance, with their head leaning down. They are a double leg amputee and are wearing two black carbon fibre prosthetic legs with beige feet. Both arms and hands are stretched out, and their left leg is off the floor and raised at a right angle. Despite this their face is very calm.
Kat is sitting, looking off to the side of the camera, surrounded by darkness. Their expression is thoughtful, pensive. They are white, with a dark brown mullet, and a large jagged tattoo sweeping down the right hand side of their back that is in partial sight. They are wearing blue "stubbies" (carbon fibre prosthetics that end in a curved bottom above where the ankle joint would be) on both legs. They have both hands outstretched and on top of the cushion of their wheelchair, which has silver spokes that catch the light. There are silver chains to the sides of them on the floor, and behind them is a black carbon fibre prosthetic leg.

We are heartbroken to share that Kat Hawkins passed away in February and our condolences and love go out to all Kat’s family and close friends.

Kat would have been leading a session of Monday Night Improvisation on this date.

With love and respect for Kat, we instead want to hold an Open Space for those that loved Kat to come together for an evening of improvised togetherness.  The space will be open and warm, with music, a film or two, and a chance to be together and raise a glass.

ID’s relationship with Kat began in earnest in 2023 when they performed ‘Left Hanging in the Orchard’ at our Fête de la Fête in 2023. Kat was everyone’s biggest supporter, with the biggest heart.  We will miss them so much.

If you would like to come along to this gathering, please RSVP below.

If you have capacity to donate, any funds will be used specifically to support the access costs of Kat’s friends to attend.
