The What Festivals ran from 2009-2016 with each guest-curated around a different theme. For the 2013 edition, Frank Bock curated with assistant curator Luke Pell around the theme Dancing in Context. In addition to studio-based activities, they included six Skype conversations between artists based in the UK and abroad. At a time when video calls still felt new to many, each conversation played between movement and speaking, using image, object and bodies to communicate. Here, we include the 2013 e-flyer and curatorial statements from Frank Bock and Independent Dance as added context for the conversation series.

Based in London, Frank Bock is both an independent curator and teacher as well as a practicing psychotherapist.
Originally trained as a dancer, he was a founding member of the Featherstonhaughs before forming and co-directing the innovative partnership Bock and Vincenzi since 1995. He was also Education Manager and Artistic Associate with the Cholmondeleys and Featherstonehaughs until 2011.
In January 2012 Frank began working as a curator for Independent Dance, responsible for the Crossing Borders programme. He is currently teaching on the Creative Practice MA run by (ID/SDD/Trinity Laban) and is visiting lecturer at Doch in Stockholm.
